LUSAKA， March 16 (Xinhua) -- Zambia's women movement on Thursday urged the Zambian president to fire one of his aides for assaulting a female police officer.

Kaizar Zulu， President Edgar Lungu's political advisor， is alleged to have assaulted a female police officer during a prize presentation ceremony after the Africa Cup of Nations Under 20 finals won by Zambia last Saturday.

According to local media， the aide went berserk after he was stopped from joining Lungu on a podium by Confederation of African Football (CAF) officials and ended up attacking the female officer.

The female officer has since reported the aide to the police who however have refused to open a docket.

The Non-Governmental Organizations' Coordinating Council (NGOCC)， an umbrella body of women organizations， urged Lungu to fire his aide， saying it was not the first time Zulu has assaulted a woman.

Engwase Mwale， the organization's executive director， said in July 2016， Zulu also assaulted a 25-year-old woman for hooting at him at a filling station.

"NGOCC is deeply concerned with Mr. Zulu's continued public display of disrespect for women，" said Mwale.

According to her， Lungu should not just be condemning the problem of gender-based violence but should show action by firing his aide.

Zambia's Human Rights Commission also said the incident that came barely a few days after the country commemorated the International Women's Day should be condemned.

"The Human Rights Commission is particularly concerned that the reported human rights violation was allegedly committed by a senior government officer， against a law enforcement officer，" said Mudford Mwandenga， chairperson of the human rights' body.

The human rights body has since called for thorough， fair and impartial investigations into the matter， adding that the harassment of a police officer by a senior government official was the highest profile of lawlessness and impunity.

During the commemoration of this year's International Women's Day， Lungu expressed concern over the rising cases of gender-based violence cases in the country and called for action from all stakeholders to stop the vice.

According to figures from the police， Zambia recorded 18，540 cases of gender-based violence last year， compared with 18，088 the previous year， representing a 2.4-percent increase.
