ANKARA, Oct. 9 (Xinhua) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Monday condemned the decision by the U.S. embassy to stop non-immigrant visa services in Turkey amid a diplomatic row.

"The embassy's decision to suspend all non-immigrant visa applications is upsetting," Erdogan said in a joint news conference with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Porochenko in Ukraine's capital Kiev, state-run Anadolu Agency reported.

The president said he had suggested Turkish foreign ministry officials to response "based on the rules of reciprocity."

On Sunday, the U.S. Embassy in Ankara announced it had suspended non-immigrant visa services at all diplomatic facilities in Turkey. In response, Turkey's Washington Embassy subsequently suspended non-immigrant visa services in the U.S. citing security concerns.

The spat between the two countries was ignited by the recent arrest of Metin Topuz, a U.S. consulate employee in Istanbul who was accused of suspected links to the group of U.S.-based preacher Fethullah Gulen, who is blamed for the July 15, 2016 coup attempt that killed 249 people in Turkey.

Earlier Monday, Turkish foreign ministry summoned the undersecretary of U.S. Embassy, urging for an immediate reversal of the decision.

UNITED NATIONS, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- President of the UN GeneralAssembly Miroslav Lajcak on Wednesday called for action to preventhatred.

"We are not here today just to remember the Holocaust. We arealso here to remind ourselves of our collective failure to preventit," he told an annual event of the United Nations to mark theinternational day in memory of the victims of the Holocaust."Because, the Holocaust was not a surprise. It did not happenovernight. We saw it coming, and we did not stop it."

"We need more than meetings, or resolutions, or discussions. Weneed early action; we need quick responses; we need tangibleresults on the ground," he said.

Lajcak said all the tools to do this already exist -- inmultilateralism.

He warned that in today's world, red warning flashes arelighting for the prevalence of hatred. "Acts of genocide, systematic discrimination, anti-Semitism, racism, intolerance,Islamophobia, hate speech. However, we have not always acted inresponse."

"Today we remember the darkest hour of our human history. We payour respects to the people who lost their lives. And we honor thosewho took risks to prevent the suffering of others. But we must alsocall for action." Enditem

TRIPOLI, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- The Libyan city of Misurata on Wednesday demanded postponement of the return of internally displaced people of Tawergha to their city scheduled for Thursday.

The military council and the elders council held "concerned parties responsible for the wrong handling of the Misurata-Tawergha issue" in a joint statement.

The statement also slashed the announcing of the returning date without fully implementing the agreement, particularly in terms of "reconciliation, extradition, taking security measures, and compensation for all parties."

The statement demanded to postpone the return of Tawergha's displaced people until all the demands are met "in order to fairly and objectively treat this sensitive issue."

The statement also demanded an immediate halt to the ongoing construction work in Tawergha "as it might conceal graves and evidence that could lead to the fate of missing persons."

The UN-backed prime minister, Fayez Serraj has previously announced that Feb. 1 would be the date for the return of the internally displaced people of Tawergha to their city.

During the 2011 uprising, some residents of Tawergha allied with the forces of former leader Muammar Gaddafi against the rebels of the nearby city of Misurata.

After Gaddafi's regime was toppled, those residents, accused by Misurata of actively participating in the fighting against them, fled their homes to others cities in Libya. Since then, they have been internally displaced.

In August 2016, representatives of Tawergha and Misurata cities signed a UN-sponsored draft reconciliation agreement to allow Tawerghan refugees to return home.
